Black 04:17
1. Black Black is a cast, And two is a crowd, And gold rim is an answer. Black is a crowd. I am just for you, As you are not for me So even if you stop, You’re sitting here by yourself, You can never try to answer anymore, You can never start and see What you’re doing to me. Kiss, they were ones, They dressed like something so special, And death is to begin, Caress, I think it’s a sin I was alone, Only ‘til you took me away, You can never stop, You’re sitting all by yourself, You can never try to argue anyone, You will never stop and see, What you’re doing to me. I’m alone, While he was standing next to you, And days prolong, Yeah there was time, Just you wait and see, Waiting for a bottle of truth, I’m just a lonely guy in my youth, Waiting for you Is all I wanna do So if you couldn’t stop, You’re sitting all by yourself, You can never try to argue anyone, You will never stop and see What you’re doing to me, You can never stop, You’re sitting all by yourself, You can never try to answer anything, You will never stop and see, What you’re doing to me, What you’re doing to me, What you’re doing to me, What are you doing with me?

2. Strange Condition Read me the letter, baby Do no leave out the words Stories and cigarettes Ruined lives of lesser girls And I wanna know ‘Cos I want you to know And it's a strange condition A day in prison It's got me out of my head And I don't know what I came for Send me the money, baby Do not leave out the wage You know you're the best thing ever To come out of this place Hey I want you to know ‘Cos I wanna know And it’s a strange condition A day in prison It's got me out of my head And I don't know what I came for I want you to know It’s a strange condition A day in prison It's got me out of my head And I don't know what I came for I want you to know I want you to know So leave out the others, baby Say I'm the only one Cut out the uniforms And settle with the sun Hey, I want you to know ‘Cos I wanna know And it’s a strange condition And a life in prison It's got me outta my head And I don't know what I came for I want you to know ‘Cos I wanna know Yeah I gotta know

Shotgun 04:15
Baby Gimme a sign A message coming through With all we're Leaving behind I miss you I want to know about you I want to live around you But it's easy to worry here Oh I hope I don't disappear I know, yeah, I know I know we'll have to choose But I'm leaving it up to you Yeah baby I needed some time To figure out my shit Still walking Through the mines Explosions never far I want to know about you I want to live around you But it's easy to worry here Oh I hope I don't disappear I know, yeah, I know I know we'll have to choose Is there anything left to lose? Yeah baby, yeah baby When you're gone I know it's so hard I know if you come to me I can make us happy Yeah baby I'm here inside I need to tell you something Put your hand in mine I want your name baby I don't know your name anymore I don't know your name anymore I never knew your name before Yeah, baby

Closet 02:48
Closet Oh Billie I want you so I'm trying to meet you Too many things they don't know Too many repeatings Of beatings And I'm walking around your closet I want you to say my name again. So Billie I lost control I'm trying to meet you Too many things they don't know Too many repeatings Of beatings So I'm walking around your closet I want you to say my name again. So don't stop Don't stop Don't turn around So Billie I lost control I'm trying to meet you Too many things they don't know Too many repeatings Of beatings Of beatings So I'm walking around your closet I want you to say my name again Oh Billie I lost control Don’t stop Don’t turn around.

Just Another 03:54
Just Another You and I, we’re two of a kind, I hate to say it but you’ll never relate, What makes you tick It makes me smile. You said that I should get away from it all, And bury my head in the sand if I want to, I think you Should thank me now. You were lying wide awake in the garden Trying to get over your stardom And I could never see you depart us And you’re my baby, You’re just another girl. I never mind the way I had to see ya My working on a day show never explains Why I see you And I feel your pain. I love to wear my work inside of my head, I can’t complain but you should never react The way you did, I feel your time. You were lying wide awake in the garden Trying to get over your stardom And I could never see you depart us And you’re my baby And you were lying wide awake in the garden Trying to get over your stardom And I could never see you depart us And you’re my baby, You’re just another girl Just another girl.

Murray 04:59
Murray I know a man Who lives under his covers, Uh uh uh uh uh uh, Lost his mind from the TV, Now he’s playing G-d, And somebody told him That he was no good at, Uh uh uh uh uh uh, He’s talking out of the left side Of his mouth, And he won’t follow These lines he’s drawn for him, And he don’t want to try, Seeing is believing, Lord knows what he sees here every night. Three little boys Dress up in the morning, Uh uh uh uh uh uh, Come back home from the school yard Talkin’ bout Love, But on this occasion The boys feel the same, Something’s holding them back there, I bet it was their mom, And they won’t follow These lines he’s drawn for them ‘Cos they don’t want to try, Seeing is believing Lord knows what they see here every night. And we both know, That people change When truth’s not part of their lives, I’ve seen the love in their eyes, Don’t say goodbye Goodbye. I know a man who wakes up In the evening, Uh uh uh uh uh uh, Lost his mind from the TV Now he’s blaming G-d, And somebody told him that He’s good for nothing, Uh uh uh uh uh uh, Now he screen prints American T-shirts Through the night. And he won’t follow, These lines they’ve drawn for him And he don’t want to try, Seeing is believing Lord knows what he sees here every night.

Turn Of The Century Saw my reflection, covered in glass How it reminds me of you Broken like a vision, an unfinished season Terror had struck me, but all I could see is your soft skin And I wondered Inside the workhouse, you mind your own business And I had the courage of two And as I requested a lapse in your presence I couldn't think of anything important to say So I wondered When this day will end Yeah, I wondered if we'd speak again Yeah, I wonder

Country 06:04
Country Baby I don't know What I think of us Won't be here tomorrow I get so mixed up It's a shame that we're not living in the country A place that I once seen before In a book you've always loved but never showed me You know I never lost before Baby I don't mind Where I'm going to Love that asks for nothing Love that we never knew In the days when we were living in the city It seemed that we were talking more I can never love you like the way you love me And these are things i can't ignore You know I never lost before We give it up to a world that was never true It was always me and you Baby I can tell It's not coming back Won't be here tomorrow I know we'll be fine with that In the days when we were living we were happy The thing that we were waiting for From a book you've always loved but never showed me These are things I can't ignore You know I never lost before You know I never lost before You know I never wanted it more You and I were 2 of a kind, i hate to say it but we'll never relate You and I were 2 of a kind, you made me smile.

On Your Side 06:36
On Your Side I’m outside your house, 2 am it’s dark, So many mistakes, Come back home from bars, I am on your side, I just want to tell you off. So many lies Are taking hold, It’s not your fault, There’s many scars I am on your side, It’s taken me a long time, I am on your side, I’m on your side And I listen, Yeah, I listen. Can you listen? Now I’m listening. I am on your side, it’s taken me a long time, I am on your side, I’m on your side. And I listen, Yeah I listen, Can you listen? Now I’m listening. I’m heading out tonight And I listen.

Paradise Cove Play me a song Sing your heart out Expecting the sun I got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted when you showed up I got what I wanted and it's never enough I drove out to the white trash beach on a brief vacation I felt freer than I had in a long time I wondered if it was cos you were gone you were gone I got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted when you showed up I got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted, it's never enough Surfers protect the actors from flashers Fathers and sons talk it out like brothers The water doesn't sting as much in the summer The waves can carry you home To the girl with the shapes and another life A freckled complexion and squinting eyes You want so much to tell her, but it feels like a lie. Got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted when you showed up I got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted when you showed up I got what I wanted and it's never enough Never enough (play me a song) When you talk it makes me cringe You want so bad to have meaning but you're empty and draining You're so 4th street I cant take it I know I shouldn't care But your life's intersecting where mine's disconnecting Yeah your life's intersecting where mine's disconnecting Got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted when you showed up I got what I wanted and it wasn't enough I got what I wanted, it's never enough That could be bad for us both.

For Us 03:56
For Us Ask yourself What do you think about us? I was in the station Working on something for us You say your empty mind Is easy when it's drugged I watched you fall out of bed and scrape up your back Well, maybe This life is like the drug This life is like the drug. Ask yourself What do they say about us? I was in the station Cooking up something for us You say your empty mind Is easy when it's drugged I watched you fall out of bed and scrape up your back Well, maybe This life is like your bed This life is like your bed. I've seen you fall between Everywhere we go They want to love you, baby More than you know I've seen the storm inside you All through the day I know it never leaves you Not in that way I've seen your empty mind is easy when it's drugged I've watched you fall out of bed and then scrape up your back Well, maybe This life is like your head This life is like your head This life is like your head. Ask yourself Ask yourself Yeah, ask yourself

Close 04:39
Close Hey what's going on? I could still be strong For us tonight I know it will get hard But I won't run away I'll figure it out Just stay close Wait for the sun Learn to live this life, learn to get along All this innocence That we've come to miss Will make us stronger I don't have the time to go back in time I already lived it Just stay close Wait for the sun Learn to live this life, learn to get along Just stay close wait for the stars Until they realign just like the first time With all we've come to know we work so hard for what? I don't wanna miss it Just stay close Wait for the sun Learn to live this life Learn to get along Just stay close wait for the stars Until they realign just like the first time The first time

Life On A Chain I live on a chain and you share the same last name, as a joke, I sent a bottle of whiskey, as you choked, I knew it made you feel dirty, and I was waiting over here for life to begin, I was looking for the new thing, and you were THE sunshine heading my front-line, I was alone, you were just around the corner from me. Time alone is good, I spent my days in the city, dirty neighborhood, you know you’ll never convince me, so I sold the town away, I couldn’t wait to forget you, I was killed in half a day, I hadn’t time to regret you, and I was waiting over here for life to begin, I was looking for the new thing and you were the sunshine heading my front line, I was alone you were just around the corner from me. I, I’m still on the chain, and you, had the same last name, as a joke I sent a bottle of whiskey as you choked you said it made you feel dirty…waiting over here, for life to begin, still looking for the new thing, and you were the sunshine heading my front-line, I was alone, you were just around the corner from me.

Last Summer 05:30
Last Summer We were afraid We would never meet again We would never see it thru Our time was short but not for no one reason We couldn't stay We were not each others truth We were close but very far I'll never see your face in sunshine again... We were there last summer It was fresh as the ocean We were great last summer But we cannot go back again To repeat what we once had No i can not do it all again Prolonging pain that we will deal with eventually We were there last summer It was fresh as the ocean We were great last summer But we cannot go back again Oh maybe as time goes by We will talk about it and laugh But now it's too close, it's too close We know what we must do We were there last summer It was fresh as the ocean We were great last summer But we cannot go back again We can not go back again We can not go back again We can not go back again We can not go back (We were great last summer)

Lose You 06:50
Lose You I'm taking a ride off to one side It is a personal thing Where? When I can't stand Up in this cage I'm not regretting I don't need a better thing I'd settle for less It's another thing for me I just have to wander through this world Alone Stop before you fall Into the hole that I have dug here And rest even as you Are starting to feel the way I used to I don't need a better thing (Just to sound confused) Don't talk about everyone I am not amused by you. I’m gonna lose you, Yeah I’m gonna lose you If I’m gonna lose you I’m gonna lose you Yeah I’m gonna lose you If I’m gonna lose you I’ll lose you now for good.

For Nancy And when you said I could not stay with you, That’s not the way you would have wanted to be, Convince yourself that everything is alright, ‘Cos it already is. Don’t sell your heart and break just anyone, I want to run with you through moorland fields, Convince yourself that everything is alright ‘Cos it already is, So take your lessons hard and stay with him And when your car crash comes don’t be mislead, Convince yourself that everything is alright ‘Cos it already is, Yeah it already is So take your lessons hard and stay with him And when your car crash comes don’t be mislead Convince yourself that everything is alright ‘Cos it already is, Yeah it already is, So take him home.

Pete Yorn on: Pete Yorn: Live At The Fonda...Over 2 hot August nights in 2009, at the end of the “Back and Fourth” tour, we played the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, CA. It had been a busy year, I would release 3 albums (Breakup, Back and Fourth, and The Black Album) within 12 months. It was a late decision to film and record the show and we scrambled to get a crew together to get it done. (Special thanks to RY, Jersey Jim and Chauncey on that front.) This show highlights one of my favorite touring bands, a big, muscular group, comprised of perennial cohort, Joe Kennedy on keyboards, guitar and backing vox. Mark Noseworthy on guitar, Zak Schaffer on bass, Johnny Polonsky on electric guitar wizardry, Scott Seiver on drums, and occasionally, cousin Max Goldblatt shakin’ the tambourine. I had a lot fun touring with those guys they were good for some laughs and great for some rock shows. This show was post mixed and mastered by the legend Shawn Everett. Live front of house sound duties were provided by the great Steve Madden. This set features selections from most releases up to Back and Fourth and especially highlights that moment in time, back in 2009. There's even a choice New Order cover thrown in for good measure. I hope you turn it up loud and get a speeding ticket while listening.
Much love,
PY 9/25/20
